GoPro Sponsors Powerboat Superleague for Second Consecutive
Year
Line of On-Board Cameras Provides Unique Perspective During
Races.
Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 01, 2009 - GoPro, the world’s
leading manufacturer of wearable and vehicle mountable digital cameras for sports, will sponsor the 2009 Powerboat
Superleague for the second year running and provide its best selling GoPro Motorsports HERO Wide cameras and
accessories to capture this thrilling watersport racing series.
Since 1986, the Powerboat Superleague has conducted over 138
racing events in the United States alone. These events showcase state-of-the-art boats piloted by renowned drivers
in areas close to shore, providing daytime entertainment for spectators and local communities.
"We first tried GoPro’s Motorsports HERO cameras on the Powerboat Superleague's
boats in 2008 and got some fantastic footage. Plus, their low cost, durability and ease of use made them perfect
for our type of race coverage,” said Jarred Romesburg, director and executive producer of Superleague Digital
Media. “Our 2008 production earned five national awards and I am certain the footage from the GoPro Motorsports
Cameras played a huge role in that. We have tried nearly every type of onboard camera out there and GoPro is the
best. We are proud to have them as a sponsor and official camera of Superleague Digital Media," Romesburg
added.
The Powerboat Superleague is a June-through-September, nine race series designed with spectators
in mind. With races held on rivers, lakes and small bays/coves across the Midwest and east coast, an estimated
700,000 people take part in the live action while 25 million viewers watch through worldwide broadcast.
State-of-the-art boats built for speed and showmanship, and piloted by internationally revered drivers make the
Powerboat Superleague the US premier event in boat racing. GoPro is excited to help bring the seldom-seen
perspective of the driver to Superleague viewers.
“On-board camera angles provide some of the most exciting viewing angles in
motorsports...but can also be the most challenging perspective to capture. GoPro’s mission is to make it easy to
capture incredible footage from incredible angles, with ease, and our industry leading Motorsports HERO WIDE
cameras do just that. We’re fired up that Superleague Digital Media has chosen GoPro as the official on-board
camera to help bring another unforgettable season to Superleague superfans and new viewers alike,” said Nicholas
Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro.
Perfect for catching all the action without capsizing, GoPro recently introduced
its new 170 degree wide-angle lens Motorsports HERO Wide camera, which dramatically shows more viewing area and
more racing excitement than any other on-board camera.
The Motorsports HERO Wide is bundled with mounting accessories for cars,
motorcycles, motorsports helmets, boats, planes and other powersports activities. Retailing for $199.99, the
Motorsports HERO Wide is available at motorsports-related stores such as track shops, Yamaha dealers, Cycle Gear
stores, PEP BOYS automotive stores and online at http://www.goprocamera.com .
“Our years of development and passion for motorsports show in the quality and
performance of our products. It’s a great validation that so many production companies and leading brands use GoPro
cameras in their productions. GoPro is proud to be the world’s leading producer of wearable and gear mountable
cameras for sports,” Woodman said.
